Corning Fiber Visio Stencils
Hi All,
I have been documenting our network with MS Office Visio '07 so that we can start adding VLANs during the summer. We have several buildings on site all connected via 1GB and 10GB fibre, then each room connected via copper.
I have documented each major junction over the network but cannot find a 3D setncil for a fibre patch panel (8, 16 & 24 ports). To complete the drawings I have temporarily used a standard UTP patch panel stencil labelled as a fibre one.
I would be very grateful if someone could point me to/or attach a fibre stencil.
Chris.

:: Overview of Corning Rack Mount Fiber Optic Patch Panel
Corning Cable System’s Closet Connector Housing (CCH) fiber optic patch panels fit into a 19 inch and 23 inch utility racks. This document describes the installation procedure for CCH-01U (1U) and CCH-02U (2U) enclosure. You can purchase a separate adapter bracket kit to mount them to a 24 inch rack. Another adapter bracket kit is available to install the units on a wall.
The CCH-01U patch panel accepts up to 2 connector panels or modules and occupies one rack space (1U). The CCH-02U patch panel accepts up to 4 connector panels or modules and occupies two rack spaces (2U). You can buy Corning CCH connector panels here which are sold separately.
When a locking door is desired, a lock kit (sold separately and you can buy it here) allows field installation of a lock.
Direct connectorization of loose tube cable can be accomplished with buffer tube fanout kits (sold separately and you can buy it here). The unit can also accept preconnectorized modules or panels with pigtail fibers which are routed to a splice housing (sold separately and you can buy it here).
Make sure you know the unit’s placement in your network and where the cable will enter the unit, where it will be placed in the equipment rack, how jumpers will be routed, and other details of your installation plan.

1) Unpack Stubbed Units
Corning Fiber Optic Patch Panel Visio Stencils
If you are installing a stubbed unit, follow the directions provided with the shipping container to remove the stubbed unit from its packaging. Place the unit on a work surface to perform the preliminary work before mounting the unit onto a rack.
2) Access the Interior of the Housing
- Lift up on the swell latches and open the front and rear doors
- Remove the four screws that attach the top of the housing to the base.
- Lift the top off the base.
- Lift up the tray stop. Slide the tray to the open position. Rotate the tray stop 90 degrees to lock it in the “up” position.
3) Secure the Cable
To strain-relief the cable, use the Universal Cable Clamp (UCC) or cable ties.
- Strain-relieving Using the Universal Cable Clamp(UCC)
a) Determine the location for cable entry into the housing
b) Attach the strain-relief bracket to the housing
c) Follow installation instructions provided with the UCC kit to secure the cable. Do not tighten yet to allow for cable adjustment if necessary. Cut the central member and yarn flush with the end of the cable sheath. - Strain-relieving Using Cable Ties
Secure the cable sheath to the rear of the housing using two cable ties.
- Strain-relieving the Cable Central Member (see the figure above)
a) Install the U-shaped washer and the flat washer to the rear of the housing in the orientation shown above using the supplied Philips-head machine screw.
b) Place the central member and yarn, if present, between the U-shaped washer and the flat washer.
c) Wrap yarn around the screw in a clockwise direction under the U-shaped washer.
d) Tighten the screw.
e) Trim off the excess yarn.
f) Trim the central member to less than or equal to 6.5cm from the end of the cable sheath. - Grounding Armored Cable
One grounding kit (PN FDC-CABLE-GRND) is required to ground each armored cable. Follow instructions provided with the grounding kit to attach the hardware to the armored cable.
a) Attach the other end of the ground wire from the armored cable to the equipment rack. The equipment rack must be grounded to the primary building ground.
b) Remove the paint from the rack at the grounding location to ensure metal-to-metal contact. It is recommended to use an antioxidant on the bare metal to prevent corrosion.
c) Or, attach the other end of the ground wire from the armored cable to a rack-mounted grounding bus bar that is grounded to the primary building ground.

4) Install Cable into the Housing
- Installation Preconnectorized Cable into Adapter Panels
a) Make sure tray is in the open position.
b) Remove the blank panels from the front of the unit and replace with adapter panels (purchased separately).
c) Clean connectors and adapters.
d) Install connectors into the adapters at the rear of the adapter panels.
e) Install the self-sticking wire clip to the connector tray as shown here. Route fiber slack through the clamp and secure loosely with a cable tie over the spiral wrap. Use the routing clips to secure the fiber legs as needed.
f) Record fiber identification information appropriately on the provided identification label. Attach the label to the inside of the front door. - Installing Cable Using Buffer Tube Fanout Kit
a) Make sure tray is in the open position.
b) Remove the blank panels from the front of the unit and replace with adapter panels (purchased separately).
c) Remove cable sheath as described in the sheath removal instruction provided with your cable. Suggested lengths are illustrated in the following figure. Do not expose the bare fiber until you are ready to terminate it.
d) Terminate the fibers according to the instruction provided with the Buffer Tube Fan Out Kit.
e) Install the fanout bracket to the rear of the housing using the provided screw.
f) Secure the fanout body to the bracket using a cable tie (see the following figure). Do not bend the cable too sharply as it enters the housing.
g) Remove the blank panels from the unit and replace with connector panels (sold separately).
h) Clean connectors and adapters.
i) Install connectors into the adapters at the rear of the adapter panels.
j) Use the routing clips to secure the fiber legs as needed.
k) Record fiber identification information appropriately on the provided identification label. Attach the label to the inside of the front door. - Installing Preconnectorized Modules/Panels
a) Make sure tray is in the open position.
b) Label the end of the pigtail fiber with an identification tag indicating the module/panel to which it is attached (see following figure). single-fiber pigtails can be bundled together to simplify routing. If any excess length of the pigtail is removed, place new identification tags on the working length before removing the excess fiber.
c) Remove the blank panels from the front of the unit and replace with the preconnectorized modules/panels (sold separately).
d) Feed the pigtail fiber through the opening on either side of the housing in the rear and into a splice housing (see the following figure). Splice housings are sold separately.
e) Record fiber identification information appropriately on the provided identification label. Attach the label to the inside of the front door.
f) Follow instructions provided with your splice housing to complete the termination.
5) Reattach Cover and Secure Sliding Tray
- Lift up the tray stop and rotate it 90 degrees to unlock it. Slide the tray to the closed position until it is secured by the tray stop.
